Why do I have dogs?
I don’t know why. I originally purchased my first Doberman for companionship, but quickly became interested in the history of the breed and felt the need to help preserve the working qualities of the Doberman. I truly enjoy training my dogs in the sport of Schutzhund and find it to be a pleasurable hobby. Yet the deeper I sink into this breed, I sometimes find myself questioning why I am doing all of this?!?! Sometimes it seems like more work than it is worth or is it? Ok, enough venting. I really do enjoy working with my dogs but sometimes I would rather sleep in and forget about tracking or watch tv at night versus working on obedience. Oh, well.
Cosmo: Did some wonderful tracks this weekend and seems to really grasped the idea of indicating articles. The conditions were great due to all the raining. Cosmo is the tracking freak of the group.
Jingo: Did equally well with tracking this weekend. Mike did a couple endurance tracks with many “s” curves and sharp turns. Jingo followed it like a champ. I think the dogs really enjoyed tracking on moist grass for once. No more crispy grass please!!!
Baccara: We are still trying to figure each other out. I laid a Schutzhund three track and let it age about an hour. During that time it started misting out, so I wasn’t exactly sure how she would do. When I brought her to the track she seemed a little confused on what I was asking. She is a HUGE food dog and when she smelled treats on me she kept coming to me. Finally I pointed down to the track and said SUCH very loud which resulted in her dropping her nose and taking off down the track. She did an excellent job, but I see she could use a little work on the articles. She did indicate them, but wanted to take off before I told her to. I can live with that. I need to read up on the rules about the FH to see what I can do with her from here. I must say Baccara LOVES tracking.
I find tracking to be a sick addiction of mine. I hate to love it and love to hate it, if that makes any sense.
