aka Pollo
Well, Pollo has been an interesting guy for me. He is the dog that I only picked up because Mike insisted. I fought it all the way home and then freaked out when he got here. The last thing I need is another dog, but some how Pollo has found a little nitch at my house. I have tried to act like I don’t like him, but he won’t allow that. I have explained to him he is ONLY visiting, but he doesn’t agree. I have said if he dose ONE thing wrong OR creates too much work he is gone, but he continues to be a good boy. Urghh… Pollo, why are you being good?!?! Damn it, you need to do something wrong.
So….. last weekend was our first time working together. It went ok, but he was highly distracted with Butch around. He seemed conflicted on who he should be working for. Fast forward a week and things changed. I brought him onto the field for obedience and Butch made a point to keep some distance. Pollo had eyes only for me, so I was happy. After a bit, Butch said we should move to the other side of the field. Pollo and I were following him. Pollo started sniffing the air behind Butch and pulling towards him. I was thinking, here we go again. I informed Butch that Pollo was hot on his trail. When Butch turned around, Pollo ran to him and laid his head on him. Butch started petting him, I am thinking “When is this dog going to like me better?” and then Pollo tried to BITE BUTCH!!!!!! He went from “hey how you doin,” to…. I want to bite you!!!! Not just a bite, but I want to eat you for dinner type bite. I was like OMG what is going on?!?! Butch started laughing and said, “I told you he will really bite!” It kind of freaked me out, because here is the guy who owned him for the last four years and now he wants to eat him?!?! I informed Butch he has never acted like that at my place. So Butch had to give me a hard time. He was like, “So you scared now? Are you scared of him? Oh, now you scared of him!!!” Hmmm… well he just tried to eat YOU and I have known him for two weeks and I shouldn’t be scared? Ok, so I am not scared but maybe not ready to jump on his ass about things….. I say we are in the honeymoon phase. Me and Pollo are on our best behaivor, we have yet to have our first argument and I think I can wait a few more weeks for that
Again, thanks Amanda for the photos:

Due to Cosmo’s injury (please read below), her bite work was limitted yesterday. I noticed she wasn’t biting as deep on the side of the puncture wound, so I was glad we kept it short. We worked on sending her into the blind, keeping her clean on the initial entry, and as alway, working with LOTS of people around.
In obedience, we focused on drill work. Had her focus with distractions and lots of pivot turns. She is my first dog to be extremely aware of her hindquarters. She did a great job remaining focused. I also worked on her long down with distraction and she calm and didn’t think about breaking it. My plan is to do her BH and SchH I this fall on one weekend. After reminding Butch of my plan, he felt we needed to bring the dumb bell back out. I haven’t worked it since March, so I was worried. She actually did fine holding it, but it wasn’t as firm of a grip as I would like to see. Butch caught her off guard and hit it of her mouth. Again, this is a forced retrieve, so the electric was used to remind her not to drop it. Our homework this week is to get back on track with the retrieve.
Thanks Amanda for the photos

I realized it is time for a new vet when Cosmo came home from a minor procedure with half her face swollen and a hole through her cheek into her mouth. No one can explain to me what took place, since her face was no where near the site that was to be worked on. Also, no one informed me on pick up that there was a problem. I didn’t notice the hole until a couple of hours later when the swelling set in. One phone call later, I was told they ran into a “problem” when they decided to attempt the procedure with no sedation……
Excuse me?!?! You thought cutting into my dog with no sedation was a good idea?!?!? And you are surprised she attempted to take you out?!?!? And you are telling me my dog is extremely aggressive because she didn’t appreaciate being diced and sliced without sedation?!?!? And you thought doing it without a muzzle was a good idea????? Please….. This isn’t over, round two of discussions will be taking place on Monday.
