Hanging out at Lyn’s house, minus Lyn….
Frodo is crashed on the bed, Cosmo in a crate (or else she would eat all of Lyn’s stuff), Charlie Brown, Earl, and Zelda chillin’ downstairs.
And my project is in the basement
Waiting for me… and I didn’t bring a camera!
Spending the night studying the breed and reviewing all of lyn’s dobe digest’s and quarterlies from the 70’s and 80’s. Drinking wine (thanks Lyn!) and realizing I can’t type on a lap top or open a wine bottle without calling Mike for instructions!!
Oh, and managed to get hailed on….. and work Cosmo on a bite suit. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Poppy is for sale at a minimal price to the right home. She is sired by Agir and is from fully health tested parents. She is lovely young female who is house trained, crate trained, and has basic obedience. She would make an excellent agility or obedience prospect. I strongly believe dogs grieve too. Poor Snips… Jingo was her life partner. They shared a bed by the fireplace every night and always sought each others company. Here are some photos I took of her today, and some I took in Jingo and Snips last photo session together:

I am all about multi-tasking these days, because I have more things to do than hours in the day. I need to start getting Cosmo ready for trials this fall, but it is difficult to get all the reps in…. So, Cosmo does obedience while being my exercise buddy.
After running around 2 miles, I put her in a long down while I knocked out sit-ups, push-ups, and lunges. Trust me, these exercises pose great temptation to the Mighty Mo. Watching me flail around on the ground makes her want to pounce and start playing. With all that temptation, she did just fine. Once she tried squirming closer to me, but I immediately correcter her into position. She settled in after that.
Than we did some heeling, pivots, sit/platz out of motion, and fronts. I am backing off the finishes because she has started doing crooked fronts in anticipation of the finish. She did very nice with the pivots and heeling; but had to correct her into the down for the platz out of motion. After two reminders she did the exercise correctly for me. I also practiced using very calm rewards. I like to be able to calmly pat my dogs between exercises during a trial, but with Cosmo that hasn’t been possible. If I tried to calmly pat her, she would jump out of position and start to play. Today I was able to reward her between exercises without the over the top excitement…. granted this could be a result of a little less energy after running; but at least it is the step in the right direction.
We also practiced the running platz out of motion. Our first attempt didn’t go so well. She ran, platzed on command, and bounced back up to run after me. I think she couldn’t resist running after me! It took only one firm “No!” and placed into position for her to figure out what I was asking of her.
The great thing about Cosmo is that she is a very fun dog to train and work with. I did all of todays obedience with no food or toy. She has an extreme drive to please me and only requires vocal and physical praise from me. I do like to mix it up and give her food as well; but I never use a toy with her.
On a final note, she is my Quarter Horse of a Doberman. Baccara is my distance running dog, but she provides no motivation during sprints. Cosmo is fine for distance, but she LOVES doing sprints with me. It is very helpful to have someone to race against to improve my sprint times. Of course she is faster than me, but we have our game. I let her get a distance ahead of me and I turn and sprint the other way. Once she hears me beating feet the opposite direction, she comes after me. So I try to see how far I can make it before she catches me. I admit we are dorks, but whatever helps in my training
