If you didn’t know any better, you may think he is my only dog
I haven’t seen Frodo in three weeks and can’t believe how well this boy is doing. He is still very puppyish in ways, but is slowly starting to come into his manhood. We all know that Dobermans are one of the slower breeds to mature, but I enjoy watching him start to figure things out. I keep telling Mike that we are seeing glimpses of the inner monster beneath that furry coat.
While I am gone, Mike has teamed up with Sandro for training. I think Sandro is doing an excellent job developing his foundation. I still want to do Schutzhund, but I really want to title in Mondio with Frodo and Cosmo. Cosmo’s training is there, we just need to clean up things a bit. Unfortunately I won’t be able to get to that until February.
Back to Frodo…. because he is my only dog… right?!? I about died when he greated me at the door with toy in mouth. He was all excited, wagging that tail, bouncing around… until I reached for the toy. All I hear is, GRRRRRRR! WTF!?! I know you didn’t just growl at me!!! So what do I do? Grab the toy and play tug with him, of course
He loved it.
LOL, I guess he was telling me that I have been gone a little too long. Gotta love dogs!
Poor Snips, she is starting to show her age. She is spry as ever and continues to put holes in all my dogs (ask Frodo about his gash). But on this trip, I noticed for the first time she is having some difficulty with getting up after sleeping. It is hard to watch her age. She has been with me through EVERYTHING!! I have spent ten long years with her and it sad to think we are on the back side of her life. I am very confident we will have another good three to four years together, but after Jingo’s death, I don’t take any day for granted.

Wow this was a very busy weekend for me. Saturday I took Frodo down to D.C. for Butch to look at. So far Frodo has his stamp of approval. Our game plan is to let him grow, mature, and start to develop his attitude. I am keeping him free and putting him in lots of different social situations. I have to yet to see anything unerve this dog. He has tons of confidence, loves to play tug, and enjoys wrestling around with lots of body contact. I really like what I see in him.
Yesterday Frodo enjoyed playing with Snips, Charlie Brown, and Zelda. Today he spent the morning on the shooting range (in kennel of course). We want to get him used to gun fire… so no better way than letting him hang out while real guns are being fired. Frodo had no issues and I even had to wake him up a few times. Poor dog.
Funny Frodoisms: He enjoys carrying his bed around the room until he finds where he wants to sleep. Once he decides on a spot, he enjoys sleeping with his bed bunched up in his mouth. His new favorite spot is in my closet on all my scrubs!! I was wondering what I was going to do with them
Below are some pictures of him kissing me on the range. I think he misses me!!!

Frodo, aka Jingo’s Bellicose Beelzebub von Schlottke is alive and doing well.
I made a well planned trip to D.C. with Frodo and Snips with the hopes of getting some great fall pictures at Rosaryville Park. All was going well, until I noticed my camera wouldn’t turn on. WTF?!?! NO BATTERY!!!!
I was miffed to say the least…. and words were exchanged with the person who REMOVED the battery and FAILED to inform me. So there will be no photos to show and I have headache.
Maybe I can get a few photos taken before I leave tomorrow.

I hadn’t seen the puppies since the last photo shoot at three weeks. I decided this would be a great opportunity to get my first assessment in on these little guys. I have been hearing reports on who is shining, but I wanted to form my own opinion. So I started out by telling the puppsters you better stand out or you are packing your bags
Yellow collar girl was the first one I pulled out and brought her upstairs. She sat in my lap and looked around. We locked eyes and she didn’t look away. I liked her confidence and attitude. We looked at each other for a bit and then she curled up in the blankets and started to doze off. I gave her some good pats, talked loudly and palyfully with her. She just looked at me like, “Is there a reason you are talking so loud?” After putting her through a couple more tests she was winning my heart over.
Purple collar girl was next. She had the “Just love me look.” She looked at me with confidence, but also wanted to look away and scan the room. I put her through the same tests, but felt that yellow showed a little more fight in her. Of course this is five weeks and I have seen puppies come from behind and surprise me at eight weeks.
Red Collar was last and impressed me the most. If I was on the market for a male, I wouldn’t let this guy go. He is a big boy and he shows the temperament I know so well from Jingo (The Alex lines). I think he is going to be just like his father Arras! He had the “Ok, I am here” attitude with tons of confidence. When I put him on the floor he was picking up toys and carrying them around. He is going to be a great boy!

HUGE, HUGE, HUGE Congratulations to Viking’s Charlie Brown and Lyn Kargaard for their accomplishment this weekend at the WAG trial in D.C. Charlie Brown (who is owned, handled, and bred by Lyn) earned his schutzhund 1 with the scores of 72-92-96a!! He also earned high protection.
I have said from the beginning and will say again, that this is a dog to keep your eyes on. Lyn is by no means an expert handler and this dog manages to shine wherever he goes. I have had the great pleasure of seeing Charlie Brown up close and personal, and LOVE his temperament. He is monster on the field, but a snuggle bug at home. Not only does he have great temperament and working ability, but he is conformationaly nice. I think Charlie Brown has a lot to offer the breed and I hope people don’t over look him. Looking at him from the working side of the fence, I think he could bring some beauty and balance of temperament to my lines. Stay tuned for more
Again congratulations Lyn!!! You deserve a glass of wine or more!!
